Rosacea Management

What Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition where the skin is seen to be red constantly.

This condition usually effects the cheeks, however, can also effect the entire face and chest.

In severe cases can lead to an inflamed nose called Rhinophyma.

This condition, in its mild or severe case, can also be associated with broken capillaries (red blood vessels), pustules (small pimples), facial flushing, thickened and dry skin.

Rosacea can gradually get worse if not treated and would rarely resolve alone.

Factors such as UV exposure, stress, hormone imbalances, heat, alcohol, extreme cold climates, and consumption of high dairy and spicy foods are all common triggers of Rosacea.

What is Acne Rosacea and How Can It Be Treated?

Acne Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition, often mistaken for acne vulgaris. This condition is characterized by redness, dry skin and sensitivity affecting the facial area as well as visible blood vessels and small red bumps on the skin’s surface.

Although the cause is unknown, similar to other forms of Rosacea, triggers can include UV exposure, spicy food, genetics and environmental factors.

Salicylic acid chemical peels are an effective way to treat this form of Rosacea. Salicylic acid helps exfoliate dead skin cells and is anti-inflammatory, therefore assists to reduce redness associated with Acne Rosacea. This can be combined with our LED therapy to further reduce inflammation.

How Does IPL Work With Rosacea And Redness?

Rosacea, while not curable, can see significant improvement with the right treatment, such as our IPL device, which offers a multifaceted approach to managing the condition. It effectively reduces facial flushing, diminishes constant skin redness, eliminates broken capillaries, and strengthens both the skin’s barrier function and the capillary walls to prevent future severity.

Regular maintenance treatments, recommended once every 1-5 years depending on individual skin health and care post-treatment, can prolong the results and mitigate the risk of premature aging and skin cancers.

Our IPL technology provides a comfortable, minimal-downtime experience by using skin contact cooling and targeted wavelengths that specifically address haemoglobin in the skin, breaking down and absorbing damaged cells. Typically, 1-3 sessions are advised to achieve optimal outcomes, tailored to each patient’s specific needs and condition.

Pre + Post Treatment Care

During your rosacea treatment, expect a comfortable experience with minimal discomfort. The IPL device may cause a slight warmth or tingling sensation on your skin, focusing on reducing redness and improving skin appearance. Post-treatment, slight redness or blanching (white patches where blood vessels have been targeted) is normal, usually subsiding within 5 to 24 hours.

  • Avoid Known Triggers: Stay away from spicy foods, alcohol, and excessive sun exposure that can worsen rosacea.
  • Skin Care: Inform your therapist about your current skincare regimen, especially products containing retinol or other irritants.
  • Moisturise: Keep your skin well-hydrated leading up to the treatment.
  • Sun Protection: Shield your skin from the sun using high SPF sunscreen and protective clothing to avoid further irritation.
  • Avoid Heat: Skip hot baths, saunas, and intense exercise for the first 24-48 hours to reduce the risk of additional redness or swelling.
  • Follow Skincare Recommendations: Adhere to any specific skincare routine suggested by your therapist to support and extend the benefits of your treatment.
