Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A. Due to its small molecular size it is able to target the deeper layers of the skin, therefore improving the overall skin appearance. This is caused by its intense resurfacing properties that cause shedding of the outer layers of the skin to reveal fresh, clear and brighter skin beneath. This ingredient works to increase the skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen production to improve texture, dull/flaky skin, soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also reducing free radical damage and controlling excess oil production.
At Mirra Skin & Aesthetic Clinic we use medical grade retinol peels ranging from 0.5% to 1% Retinol to provide patients with optimal results long-term.
During Retinol peel treatment
The peel is applied evenly onto a cleansed skin and a second layer may be applied into areas of main concern. Patients will experience no sensation when the peel is applied as it is an 8 hour developing peel.
1-2 days post peel the skin should mild indications such as sensitivity, heat, redness and you may feel tight in some areas as the skin prepares to shed.
3-7 days post peel the skin can experience some dryness and moderate shedding of dead skin.
Day 7+ skin should appear smooth, hydrated and even.
